Elmwood Inn Civil War SoldiersElmwood was built as a home for merchant John Burton in 1842. His general store, now preserved by the City of Perryville and the Perryville Battlefield Preservation Association, still stands 100 yards away. The mansion served as Elmwood Academy from 1896-1924.

In 1973, the prominent house became Elmwood Inn, a regional restaurant that served fine Kentucky cuisine until 1989. At that time, Bruce and Shelley Richardson, purchased and  restored Elmwood Inn as a bed and breakfast with gifts shops, galleries and tearooms seating 46 people. In 2002, Elmwood became the first North American tearoom placed on the British Tea Council's List of Best Tea Places. The Richardson's closed the successful retail business in 2004 as their wholesale tea and publishing businesses moved to the forefront, and Elmwood became the private home for the Richardson family.

The building has 5000 square feet on two levels. It is zoned "commercial" and includes 3/4-acre land with formal gardens and parking.

Furnishings are not included. Many of the period pieces may be offered following the sale of the property. Download a pdf floor plan.
