Sri LankaLumbini Tea Factory, located in the Matara district of Sri Lanka's Southern Province, is a model for the global tea industry. Not only are their teas utterly spectacular, but their commitment to safe practices, sustainability, and the environment is second to none.
Lumbini's attention to detail has seen it earn a merit award as the best tea factory in Sri Lanka by the STI, Specialty Tea Institute of America, the highest price ever at the Colombo auction, and a further award from STI, a gold award for the tea we are offering here.
Elmwood founder and former STI Advisory Board Member Bruce Richardson was part of the official delegation that traveled to Sri Lanka to present the award.
This Lumbini FBOPFEXS (Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe Extra Special) is one of their finest examples of exceptional tea making. The finished leaf is exceptionally well crafted and very stylish, overflowing with golden and silver tips. The cup is likewise superb, with an amber liquor opening up to a refreshing medium body, mouth-filling astringency, and delicate notes of plum on the finish. Lumbini's Ceylon Gold is an exceptional tea from an exceptional source.
Lumbini composts all its organic waste to be used as a natural fertilizer and plants trees to help maintain their surrounding forests. The estate is located near the Sinharaja Forest, one of Asia's last virgin rainforests.
According to the FDA, Consuming Just Two Cups of Black or Green Tea Daily Reduces the Risk of Heart Disease and Diabetes.
My Favorite tea!!
Always a favorite. At times have had to wait for it to be restocked. We hate to be without this tea.
While I still love Pettiagalla for every day use, Ceylon Gold is the best. It tastes wonderful even if I leave the leaves in the cup too long and it is worth every penny!
Smooth and refreshing!
I sent for all of the Great Teas sample kits. This including 5 Great Teas of Sri Lanka Tasting Kit. Besides of all the great teas provided in the kit the teas from Sri Lanka to me stood out. The Ceylon Gold is really fine. I might have to make this my primary Black Tea to drink. I plan to order the 1/4 lb. bag.
